Perth, Western Australia
Perth is located in the south-west corner of Australia and
has a Mediterranean climate with warm to hot summers and
cool wet winters. The summer temperature averages 29 degrees
Celsius during the day and 17 degrees Celsius during the
night. The average winter temperature is 18 degrees Celsius
during the day, dropping to 9 degrees Celsius at night.
Perth’s population is approximately 1.5 million people,
whilst the state of WA totals close to 2 million.
A highly cosmopolitan metropolis set between the white beaches
of the Indian Ocean to the west and the Darling Ranges to
the east, with the Swan River winding through its heart.
Perth has been established for 167 years and as such is young
in its development, yet offers all the facilities of a modern
city.
The historic port city of Fremantle lies 15 kms south west
of the capital. It is Western Australia’s principle
port and is ideally located at the foot of the Swan River,
on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Fremantle has a definite
cosmopolitan feel to it and offers sidewalk eateries, galleries,
shops and an atmosphere that reflects the many cultures that
reside in this busy city.
Because of the Mediterranean climate, Perth has a unique,
relaxed, outdoor lifestyle. It is very common to have outdoor
parks providing play equipment for children and barbecues
for public use. Most people live in low density housing (most
commonly, separate houses), entertain informally at home
and enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities in their spare
time.
The City has a number of professional services and other
organisations and a wide range of recreational clubs for
such things as tennis, golf and boating. Many professional
and recreational clubs have reciprocal arrangements with
similar organisations interstate and overseas. These clubs
are of high standard and reasonable prices.
